Apply a flame directly to the pointed top of the cone for roughly 10 to 15 seconds until the tip catches evenly. Gently blow or fan out the flame, leaving behind a brightly glowing red ember that will send a steady, velvety ribbon of smoke into the air.
Because a cone burns from its narrow top down to its wide base, the smoke and aroma will naturally expand in volume and richness as the ritual progresses.
